  1. Sorry to be hogging the comments Pete but I’ve just had a double dose of PCP. I think you expressed what so many of us are feeling about the future for music in the new world of media.
I think we’re witnessing the end of the monopoly of the music “industry” as we’ve known it for too long. There will still be a market for branded “artistes” that can be primped, preened and packaged into a “product” for specific markets that doesn’t have ready access to the sort of music that you and I are featuring - because they are children buying what they are told to buy or grannies buying badly mis-judged birthday presents!
However, I don’t really foresee a revolution in which the industry is destroyed by indie music, rather a parallel with a piece of graffiti that I saw on a long wall in Ealing a long time ago: “What we want is not the overthrow of the state but a situation in which it gets lost in the reshuffle.”
I suspect the mainstream industry will simply become irrelevant and wither away as new networks and means of distribution evolve and make it obvious that 8% deals are not good for musicians and, when they can have 90% from the PMN are entirely avoidable.
It will happen, it is happening, it is wonderful to see and we are all (musicians, listeners and podcasters) part if it.
    Best,
    Peter
